Overview
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is a large unitary authority with a diverse property portfolio worth some £1.3 Billion. The Council estate includes significant commercial, residential, and agricultural interests.
The Valuation and Estates office is a friendly and professional team dealing with a wide variety of general practice and rural work, including disposals, acquisitions, lettings, property management, landlord and tenant, and other professional work. The team supports service delivery, seeking to maximise revenue and capital generation opportunities.
The team also acts as specialist consultants on property matters in relation to planning, regeneration, housing, and other corporate projects.
The Role
To strengthen the team, we are seeking to appoint an experienced and knowledgeable general practice surveyor with a proven track record in valuation and estates management duties.
Your work will be across the East Riding taking responsibility for your own varied and interesting caseload. Tasks will include;
Using your specialist knowledge to provide high quality written valuation and professional advice to stakeholders
Transactional work such as disposals, acquisitions and lettings
Applying your negotiating and problem-solving skills to protect and enhance the Council's property estate
Landlord & Tenant Work, including lease renewals and rent reviews.
Other Valuation & Professional Work including easements, wayleaves, assignments and sub-lettings
About You:
1. The successful applicant will have the maturity and experience to manage their own varied and interesting caseload. You will have an ability to work on your own initiative or as part of a larger team to deliver results, with the support of senior colleagues.
2. You will need to demonstrate rounded general practice experience with a good technical understanding of current practice in valuation and estate management matters ideally across commercial and residential property. The successful applicant will have a proven ability to apply their knowledge and experience in the preparation of reasoned and evidenced valuations. You should be an effective negotiator and have excellent interpersonal, communication and report writing skills.
3. The applicant will demonstrate an ability to work to deadlines, deliver desired outcomes, act with integrity and honesty, with a professional approach to work.
4. Ideally, you will be a professional member of the RICS, although applications are welcomed from candidates who are undertaking their assessment of professional competence and can demonstrate the necessary knowledge and attributes.
5. Applicants must also possess a full UK driving licence and access to your own transport.
