Overview
Our client, a UK-wide technology consultancy, is seeking a Senior Software Developer – Consultant to join their growing team. You’ll work with clients to deliver robust, maintainable, and high-performing software solutions, while helping teams adopt best practices and sustainable delivery models.
Responsibilities
* Design, develop, and deliver high-quality software solutions using modern technologies and methodologies.
* Lead technical discovery sessions and contribute to backlog refinement and delivery planning.
* Apply agile principles, extreme programming practices, and test-driven development.
* Collaborate closely with clients and stakeholders to understand needs, manage expectations, and ensure successful project outcomes.
* Mentor and coach team members to help them achieve their full potential.
* Establish and maintain high standards of code quality, performance, and accessibility.
* Lead by example within communities of practice, sharing knowledge and promoting continuous improvement.
* Ensure all work aligns with information security, quality, and compliance standards.
Requirements
Technical Skills:
* Strong expertise in Java (preferred).
* Experience with additional languages such as Scala, Kotlin, or Ruby is highly valuable.
* Solid understanding of software engineering principles, including code design, testing strategies, performance, and security.
* Proven ability to use various testing tools and frameworks in practice.
* Familiarity with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and toolkit.
* Experience in agile delivery environments using modern development methodologies.
* Enthusiastic about continuous learning and adaptable to new technologies.
Consulting & Leadership Skills:
* Proven ability to lead technical delivery and mentor others within a collaborative environment.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Confidence to challenge and influence decisions constructively.
* Experience working with or delivering services for UK government clients (SC clearance or eligibility required).

Working Arrangements
This is a hybrid role, with time split between home working, client sites, and regional hubs across the UK. Travel may be required depending on project and client needs.
