Job Summary
To work as a member of the healthcare team, in the delivery of healthcare that is safe and caring; locally engaged; efficient and innovative. Provide high quality, patient‑centred care under the supervision of qualified staff. Be accountable for your actions and omissions.
Main duties of the job
* Demonstrate knowledge of personal care and related procedures.
* Undertake all training and development courses deemed appropriate for the role as specified by Trust policy and procedure.
* Recognise own level of competence and limitations to ensure safe practice.
* Adhere to the Trust's uniform policy.
* Actively participate in the Trust's appraisal system.
* Support nurses and healthcare professionals in assisting patients with personal hygiene needs (washing, bathing, dressing, toileting, care of nails, hair care, etc.).
* Support and observe the patient, reporting to the registered nurse or healthcare professional any changes that might affect the patient's health and well‑being.
Responsibility For Financial & Physical Resources
* Ensure careful use of ward/department equipment; handling of patient valuables; order ward supplies.
* Maintain stock controls.
Responsibility For Information Resources
* Contribute to the updating of patient records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality at all times and in line with the Data Protection Act (1998).

Person Specification
Qualification & Training
* Essential: Completed the Care Certificate or willingness to work towards the qualification; successful completion of Trust pre‑interview numeracy and literacy tests.
* Desirable: Basic computer skills; English and Mathematics qualification equal to GCSE grade C or above.
Experience
* Essential: Experience of customer‑facing work.
* Desirable: Recent experience working in a care environment.
Knowledge
* Essential: Demonstrate an appreciation of patient needs and the role of the HCA.
* Desirable: Understanding of holistic care.
Skills
* Good verbal and written command of English.
* Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, team members and the wider disciplinary healthcare team.
