Salary: Approximately £45,000
What You'll Be Doing:
* Support the development and maintenance of Naval Shock Requirements, ensuring clarity and proper flow-down to systems, equipment, and suppliers.
* Manage Verification and Validation evidence to demonstrate compliance with Naval Shock Requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
* Review shock qualification evidence from suppliers and internal teams, including analytical calculations, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and physical shock test results.
* Conduct detailed stress assessments of equipment and structural components under pseudo-static shock loading, identifying risks and recommending mitigations.
* Support the planning and execution of shock testing activities, defining loading conditions, monitoring outcomes, and reviewing test results.
* Apply internal processes and standards rigorously, producing clear, auditable evidence of compliance through formal calculations and technical reports.
* Contribute to the early identification and resolution of technical issues throughout the product lifecycle, supporting continuous improvement.
Your Skills and Experiences:
Essential:
* A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related STEM discipline.
* A solid understanding of structural mechanics and dynamics principles, with the ability to apply them to real-world engineering challenges.
* Knowledge of material strength behavior, including elastic and plastic properties, and their influence on structural performance.
Desirable:
* Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools and techniques for structural assessment.
* Exposure to Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) concepts.
* A clear ambition to work towards professional chartership, with a commitment to ongoing technical and professional development.

The Shock Transversal Team:
The Shock Transversal team is vital in ensuring a vessel's functionality after experiencing shock loading from Naval Underwater Explosion Events (UNDEX). As a Senior Structural Engineer - Shock & Dynamics, you'll be at the forefront of this mission, supporting systems throughout the project lifecycle to meet demanding Naval Shock requirements. Your role will involve:
* Hands-on engineering analysis, including structural calculations and FEA.
* Assessment of historical and empirical evidence.
* Involvement in specialist Naval Shock Testing.
* Technical review of supplier deliverables.
You'll collaborate closely with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, providing expert shock design guidance while benefiting from strong mentorship and development opportunities in this specialized field. Relocation support is available for all Submarine roles, subject to eligibility criteria.
