We are seeking a Field Service Engineer to head our UK headquarters in Chichester. The role reports to the Field Service Supervisor and focuses on robotic automation within a fast‑paced, highly automated biotech environment.
Field Service Engineer – Responsibilities
* Install, configure, train, and commission BioDot equipment according to customer specifications.
* Conduct acceptance testing and provide handover to customers.
* Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, and fault diagnosis.
* Replace components and restore equipment to full functionality.
* Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
* Assist with mechanical, electrical, software, and liquid‑handling inspections and troubleshooting.
* Configure computers/software and integrate auxiliary systems such as inspection cameras.
* Deliver technical training and guidance to customers, including remote support to minimise downtime.
* Act as a trusted technical advisor, building strong customer relationships and coordinating with sales managers.
* Adhere to company quality management system requirements and comply with safety and environmental regulations.
* Travel extensively across the UK and Europe, with occasional international assignments.
* Support BioDot sales efforts through service contract sales, system upgrades, accessories, and spare parts.
* Assist in writing technical documents such as service manuals and application notes.
* Maintain spare‑parts inventory, record travel expenses, and manage timecards.
* Protect and manage an assigned tool kit and work collaboratively with a global support team.
* Perform additional duties as assigned.
Field Service Engineer – Qualifications
* Technical certification or military experience.
* Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical engineering, or biotechnology (preferred).
* 2–5 years of experience with analytical instrumentation, laboratory automation, liquid‑handling systems, microfluidics, electronics, mechanical engineering, or related fields.
* Knowledge of schematic interpretation, troubleshooting, software integration, and inspection camera integration.
* Strong customer interaction skills, both verbal and written.
* Computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel and Windows Explorer.
Essential Skills and Requirements
* HNC/HND or degree in mechanical, electrical, electronics, mechatronics, or related engineering discipline.
* Proven experience in field service engineering, ideally with automation, dispensing, or laboratory instrumentation.
* Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills across mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer‑focused approach.
* Ability to work independently, manage own schedule, and prioritise tasks.
* Full UK driving licence and a valid passport.
Desirable Skills
* Experience in diagnostics, life sciences, or medical device manufacturing equipment.
* Knowledge of PLCs, motion control, and automation software.
