Job Description
Oakfield are looking to recruit a new practice nurse to join our friendly nursing team. You will work closely with salaried GPs, practice nurses, advanced nurse practitioners, Physician Associates, health‑care assistants, phlebotomists and all non‑clinical staff.
Responsibilities
She/He will be qualified in chronic disease management to include asthma, diabetes, cervical cytology, wound care, and general treatment room duties. The role supports professional development to ensure a full skills mix of treatments can be provided to our patients.
Key duties include:
* Provide face‑to‑face and telephone consultations in a general practice setting.
* Demonstrate excellent computer, patient and people skills, along with an eye for detail and ability to remain flexible as a key member of the clinical team.
* Maintain a calm, methodical approach, dealing empathetically and professionally with the general public.
* Use EMIS Web – full training will be provided.
* Adhere to Health and Safety and Infection Control protocols, conduct weekly/monthly/annual audits and act on any issues raised.
* Ensure medical equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
* Oversee stock ordering, inventory and cost‑effective resource utilisation, taking budget control into account.
* Manage sharps, waste, decontamination and spillage control procedures.
* Identify, report and correct health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately.
* Continuously develop competence in basic and advanced clinical skills and implement new advances in nursing care.
* Attend and participate in meetings arranged by the practice when required.
* Support training and development for other nursing team members.
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives such as audits, significant event analysis and development of protocols and new services.
* Complete statutory and mandatory training as defined by the practice.
* Partake in an annual individual performance review, maintaining records for NMC revalidation.
Qualifications
* Excellent computer, patient and people skills along with an eye for detail.
* Qualified in chronic disease management (asthma, diabetes, cervical cytology, wound care, general treatment room duties).
* Experience in general practice, including face‑to‑face and telephone consultations (desirable, not essential).
* Working knowledge of EMIS Web (desirable, not essential).
