Job Purpose

To provide specialist, trauma-sensitive creative Art or Play Therapy to children and young people with complex emotional needs, contributing to therapeutic intervention, assessment and collaborative work with families and professional networks as part of a reflective team.

About the Role

The work will involve a mixture of short-term, focused and more directive small group work aimed at prevention and long term, non-directive psychodynamic 1:1 work with children and young people with complex emotional needs.

We're looking for someone who is able to work at depth with difficult material, plan and implement therapeutic interventions independently, work collaboratively and supportively with families, schools and other professionals and manage their own time so that reports and meetings can fit around the caseload.

The role also involves being an ambassador for The Windmill Trust and being part of seeing the charity grow and develop, so that more children and young people can be reached. We are looking for someone with a passion for working with children and young people, who is interested in how we measure our impact and who wants to be valued for bringing their own ideas to the table.

The role involves:

* Delivering individual and group Arts/Play Therapy or Creative Psychotherapy to children and young people, aged 4 to 18 (or up to 25 if care experienced).
* Working in an attachment-informed and trauma-sensitive way with children experiencing emotional dysregulation, relational difficulties and developmental trauma.
* Supporting children and young people to develop emotional regulation, relational safety and increased engagement in daily life.
* Undertaking therapeutic assessments and risk assessments, and contributing to formulation, therapeutic reviews and care planning.
* Supporting parents and carers routinely as part of the therapeutic process, being an advocate for therapeutic parenting techniques.
* Working collaboratively with families, carers and professional networks, including attendance at relevant multi-agency meetings, where agreed.
* Maintaining high quality therapeutic records and writing reports.
* Contributing to gathering data, outcome monitoring and preparing material for impact and funding reports.
* Contributing to reflective team practice, supervision and the ongoing development of the service, including undertaking own CDP and being committed to personal development.
* Working within professional, ethical and safeguarding frameworks in line with organisational policies and professional registration requirements.
* Passion for working with children and young people, alongside a commitment to contributing to service development and acting as an ambassador for The Windmill Trust.

We welcome applications from:

Art Therapists, Dramatherapists, Play Therapists, Music Therapists, Dance and Movement Therapists and Child & Adolescent Psychotherapists (or other Psychotherapists with sufficient experience of working with children) who work in an attachment based, creative and non-directive way.

Newly qualified therapists with strong relevant placements are also encouraged to apply.

What We Offer:

* A role within a specialist service where depth of therapeutic work is prioritised over high-volume caseloads.
* Regular supervision and reflective team working.
* Access to specialist trauma-informed consultation within the team.
* Opportunities for CPD and further trauma training (subject to funding).
* A small, supportive and collaborative team that values reflection, mutual support and shared learning.
* Involvement in service development and group programmes.
* Flexibility in working hours hours, job share considered).
* A competitive salary with 35 days annual leave (pro rata).
* Membership of the NEST pension scheme.
