What you’ll be doing
as a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Technical Governance Advisor
1. Maintain and improve HSW standards, procedures, and technical documents.
2. Offer expert guidance on complex risk topics and technical safety issues.
3. Coach colleagues, facilitate learning reviews, and champion just culture and psychological safety.
4. Build strong relationships with operations, engineering, projects, and regulators.
5. Drive continuous improvement in systems, controls, and organisational learning.
6. Support the HSW Assurance Manager and wider HSW Team with matters of major accident hazard procedural control and site practice.
7. Support the wider HSW team in the diligent completion of incidents of significant potential.
8. Provide technical interpretations of standards and regulatory requirements to the HSW Team and operational leaders.
Base Location: Field-based - covering all of Thames Water
Working Pattern or hours: 36 hours
What you should bring to the role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
9. Full UK driving license.
10. Significant experience in health & safety, process/technical safety, asset integrity, or similar.
11. Strong investigation and assurance skills, with experience in audit or governance roles.
12. Excellent understanding of HSW legislation and industry good practice.
13. Ability to communicate complex technical risk clearly and influence at all levels.
14. Calm, pragmatic, collaborative approach with strong analytical skills.
15. NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6/7 qualification.
16. Recognised investigation training. (e.g., ICAM, TapRooT, 5‑Why)
17. Chartered status. (e.g., CMIOSH/CEng)
