JOB TITLE: Care Assistant
REPORTING TO: Care Home Manager
JOB PURPOSE
To provide high-quality, person-centred care to residents. To accurately record care using PCS – Person Centred Software. To promote dignity, privacy, independence, choice, rights, and fulfilment for all residents.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
* NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards this).
* Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and colleagues.
* Genuine interest in working with older adults.
* Understanding of Health & Safety, safeguarding, and risk assessment in a residential care setting.
* Positive attitude and commitment to delivering person-centred care.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Literacy and numeracy skills sufficient for recording care on PCS.
* Willingness to undertake mandatory and additional training and attend staff meetings.
* Satisfactory Enhanced DBS Check.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Personal Care & Support
o Assist residents, as required, with: Washing, bathing, oral care, shaving, and grooming.
o Dressing and undressing.
o Toileting and continence care delivered sensitively and professionally.
o Mobility support, including transfers, use of mobility aids, and falls‑prevention practices.
o Meeting hydration and nutrition needs, including assisting with eating and drinking.
o Supporting residents with sensory impairments or communication difficulties.
o End‑of‑life comfort and compassionate care.
o Encouraging independence, choice, and involvement in daily routines.
o Reporting and recording any changes or concerns promptly.
2. Care Planning & Documentation
o Record all care delivered using PCS – Person Centred Software, ensuring accuracy and real‑time updates.
o Follow resident care plans and contribute observations to support updates.
o Complete daily notes, fluid charts, repositioning records, and other required documentation on PCS.
o Report any incidents, changes, or deteriorations to the Senior/Manager.
3. Resident Wellbeing & Engagement
o Support residents to take part in activities, conversation, and meaningful daily engagement.
o Provide reassurance and emotional support.
o Ensure residents’ dignity, privacy, and preferences are always respected.
4. Environmental Support
o Make and change beds; manage soiled linen in line with infection‑control guidance.
o Maintain tidiness and cleanliness in resident rooms and communal areas (light tasks only).
o Ensure equipment is used safely and reported if faulty.
5. Mealtime Support
o Prepare dining areas for meals.
o Serve meals and drinks safely.
o Assist residents as needed and document intake on PCS.
o Observe and report changes in eating patterns or swallowing issues.
6. Health & Safety
o Follow all Health & Safety, infection control, and fire‑safety procedures.
o Use only equipment you are trained and competent to use.
o Wear appropriate PPE when required.
o Report hazards, incidents, and accidents immediately.
7. Communication
o Report changes in residents’ physical, cognitive, or emotional condition to Senior staff.
o Communicate respectfully with residents, families, colleagues, and external professionals.
o Participate in handovers and staff meetings.
8. Training & Development
o Complete mandatory induction training.
o Attend refresher and specialist training as required.
o Maintain competence in using PCS – Person Centred Software.
9. General Duties
o Work in full compliance with Auden House policies and procedures.
o Maintain resident confidentiality at all times.
o Carry out any reasonable duties requested by the Manager or Senior Carer.
o Uphold the values of Auden House at all times.
