Safeguarding Officer (Learning Support)
Actual Salary: £28,997.14 - £31,673.77 (FTE £33,302 - £36,376) Job Type: Full-time, 38 weeks TTO, Permanent
We are currently recruiting for a Safeguarding Officer who will support and co‑coordinate the delivery of safeguarding arrangements across the College. The role will work closely with managers, curriculum and support staff, external agencies, and students to maintain a culture of vigilance and responsibility, ensuring the safest possible environment at City of Liverpool College.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the College’s compliance with Safeguarding Policies and Procedures, the Prevent Duty, and coordinate and deliver awareness‑raising events.
* Deliver training for staff and students.
* Respond to and manage safeguarding cases and attend meetings, including multi‑agency meetings off site.
* Advise staff across the College on safety and wellbeing issues related to students.
* Contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College, ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.
* Engage in College and Student Support area strategic objectives, transformation groups, and participate in regular department reviews and audits.
* Promote the self‑assessment process and Quality Improvement Plan to foster continual improvements in safeguarding provision.
* Participate in Safeguarding Operational Team and Student Support Team meetings and help set team objectives.
* Plan, co‑coordinate, recruit for, and deliver:
* Lead on support cases for students experiencing safeguarding issues across the college.
* Cross‑college opportunities and major events designed to support students to stay safe, achieve academically, and progress.
* Coordinate key training events for safeguarding across the college for all stakeholders.
* Provide support and guidance to:
* Safeguarding Strategic and Operational Leads, Team and Duty Managers.
* Staff or partner agencies involved in safeguarding cases.
* Students (vulnerable groups such as looked‑after children, care leavers, young carers, and those vulnerable to exploitation).
* Encourage and promote: compliance with safeguarding procedures, development of student safety skills, a healthy environment, engagement with all College policies, teamwork, effective communication, student rights awareness, resource sharing, access to support services, professional development, and record maintenance.
Essential Criteria
* Education to Level 3 or above.
* Recent safeguarding training within the last 2 years (e.g., approved Designated Officer training).
* Experience in safeguarding case work with young people and adults, maintaining high levels of support.
* Experience with vulnerable groups such as looked‑after children, care leavers, and young carers.
* Excellent computer literacy and ability to use current IT programmes at the College.
* Ability to assess and meet young people’s and adults’ needs effectively.
* Knowledge of community challenges faced by young people, particularly barriers to education and safety.
* Experience in developing support plans and strategies around safeguarding.
* In‑depth knowledge of safeguarding legislation and requirements.
* Evidence of continued professional development.
* Minimum Level 2 literacy and numeracy.
* High communication and interpersonal skills with students.
* Ability to set high standards, analyse complex situations, and prioritise workload.
* Ability to meet targets and adapt positively to changing needs.
Desirable Criteria
* ICT qualification.
* Membership of a relevant professional body.
