37.5 hours per week (Various hours including days, weekends, nights and bank holidays)

12 Months Fixed Term

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Support Worker Critical Care Unit / Outreach will function at a higher competency level than that of other Health Care Support Workers with responsibility for actively participating as part of the multi-disciplinary team within the Critical Care Unit and as part of the Critical Care Outreach Team (CCOT) under the supervision of the Senior Nurse.

It is anticipated that this role will continue to develop through the acquisition of further skill, knowledge and competence to be determined within the Critical Care and CCOT.

Job responsibilities

Assist in the care of a group of patients each shift under the supervision of a registered nurse delivering personal and clinical care to include:

* Personal care, hygiene and elimination
* Nutritional needs
* Skin and pressure area care
* Assist in the delivery of clinical care and associated activities in line with appropriate standards and guidelines
* To promote and safeguard the well-being of patients, their families and colleagues
* Document care given in patients care-plan and ensure this is countersigned by a registered nurse
* To use accurate, clear and concise documentation written or electronically
* Use personal effectiveness and knowledge to contribute to the development and delivery of a high-quality, cost-effective service

Person Specification


Experience and Knowledge

* 18 months experience in acute care / hospital setting
* Experience of working in more than one area/discipline within the clinical environment/settingclinical environment/setting
* Understanding of basic physiology, e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance nutritional requirements etc.
* Ability to work effectively as a team player under appropriate supervision, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Knowledge and experience of providing person centred care
* Knowledge and understanding of the 6C's of nursing
* Understand the physiological, psychological and social needs of patients and their families
* Venepuncture and Canulation


Qualification and Professional Training

* Care Certificate
* GCSE Maths Grades A-C, Levels 4-9, Functional Skills Level 2
* Evidence of CPD


Skills and Abilities

* IT Skills - can use computer, email, word
* Able to perform a range of clinical skills / competencies
* Knowledge and understanding of Trusts EXCEL values and Compact Agreement
* Good written and verbal communication skills
