This position is being advertised to form a pipeline of candidates for future positions within Rolls-Royce Submarines based in our new office in Cardiff. Applicants should not expect immediate feedback, but we will review your CV promptly.
Why Rolls-Royce?
Join Rolls-Royce as a Mechanical Design Engineer in our submarine division. We lead propulsion system design for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet and are the sole provider and technical authority.
We offer an inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in your growth, provides continuous learning opportunities, and a broad range of career development paths.
Our focus areas include:
* Nuclear primary components, including the reactor core
* Secondary propulsion components
* In-service support and maintenance
* Special purpose tools and equipment
* Future products
We provide excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and benefits such as bonuses, support assistance, and discounts.
Our hybrid working model allows flexibility between office, home, or remote work, with an expectation to attend the workplace approximately three days per week for collaboration and specific activities.
What you will be doing:
You will create component, assembly, and systems designs, including through-life justifications, ensuring they meet requirements for life, cost, availability, and safety margins.
Additional responsibilities include:
* Developing solutions robust against variation across the full lifecycle
* Integrating cross-disciplinary engineering concepts
* Documenting and verifying designs against engineering standards
* Presenting at technical reviews
* Publishing safety and technical reports for customer and regulatory review
Who we’re looking for:
We value agility, boldness, collaboration, and simplicity. These principles underpin our culture and are key to our assessment process.
* Experience in relevant disciplines, not limited to submarines
* Degree qualified or apprentice trained in engineering preferred but not essential
* Experience from industries such as Civil Nuclear, Marine, Petro-Chemical, Oil & Gas is valuable
We are committed to diversity and inclusion, fostering a respectful environment where everyone can reach their full potential.
Note: You must hold or be eligible for UK Security Check (SC) clearance, and be a UK national. Rolls-Royce supports applications for clearance if needed. Dual nationals may require additional checks.
