Position Title: Experienced Horticulturist Gardener
Location: Hybrid (Remote with 1 or 2 site visits per week, depending on project needs) can be discussed.
Employment Type: Part-Time or Full-Time (flexible based on candidate availability and project load)
Overview:
We are seeking a senior-level experienced horticulturist with a balance of strong planting design talent, technical expertise, and hands-on gardening experience. This hybrid role supports the long-term care and enhancement of high-end residential gardens through a combination of remote analysis, on-site mentoring, and collaborative planning. You’ll be responsible for plant health monitoring, project proposals, fertilisation and pesticide strategy, and team instruction — with a strong emphasis on horticultural creativity and precision.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Garden Image Monitoring & Analysis:
o Review project garden photos weekly and assess plant performance.
o Upload own image documentation from site visits with detailed analysis.
o Produce concise visual reports for internal use and action planning.
2. Plant Replacement Planning (Staged Process):
o Stage 1: Source appropriate plant options based on context and design intent.
o Stage 2: Confirm plant quality, specifications, and availability.
o Stage 3: Create master planting proposals (with visuals) for line manager approval.
o Stage 4: Submit finalised plans to operations for procurement and execution.
3. Additional Works Management (Client-Driven Enhancements):
o Stage 1: Respond to client requests and assess feasibility.
o Stage 2: Draft proposals including plant sourcing research.
o Stage 3: Communicate design ideas and plans directly to the client.
o Stage 4: Coordinate with QS team for pricing and final approvals.
4. Site Team Mentorship:
o Conduct weekly visits (as needed) to advise the site team on plant condition and improvements.
o Give clear, structured instructions on maintenance tasks such as pruning, replanting, and fertilisation.
o Support upskilling of staff through hands-on horticultural feedback.
5. Pesticide & Fertiliser Strategy:
o Lead all pesticide and fertiliser works across maintenance sites.
o Ensure compliance with application regulations and internal safety procedures.
o Must be certified in pesticide use (PA1/PA6 or equivalent).
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* MSc in Horticulture or equivalent advanced qualification.
* 8–10 years’ hands-on professional gardening experience, preferably within high-end/luxury projects.
* Strong command of plant health, soil systems, pest diagnosis, and seasonal planting strategies.
* Certified in pesticide use and confident with fertiliser scheduling.
* Excellent planting design skills, with strong visual sensibility and creativity.
* Proficient in Adobe InDesign and SketchUp for concept visuals and planting plans.
* Advanced skills in Excel and Word for report writing, tracking schedules, and planning documentation.
* Strong communication, planning, and reporting abilities.
