The Department of Corrections focuses on public safety through custody and supervision, with opportunities to impact lives using evidence-based approaches. This position is based at Stanley Correctional Institution in Stanley, WI (Chippewa County).
Responsibilities
* Functions independently in an expanded clinical role, providing expert direct and indirect nursing care to patients with complex care needs.
* Demonstrates nursing practice knowledge and utilizes the Nursing Process.
* Actively participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
* Consults with the multidisciplinary team within the institution, other DOC institutions, and the community on planning and evaluating care for patients with medical and psychiatric needs.
* Identifies, develops, and implements learning plans for inmate patients, staff, students, and community agencies related to medical care and re-entry.
* Participates in collaborative program planning to meet health needs of patients at the institution and post-discharge.
* Initiates and participates in research and quality improvement activities and remains current in correctional nursing practice.
Qualifications
* SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain an active unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Wisconsin or another Nurse Licensure Compact state.
* Minimally Qualified: Experience developing and revising patient care plans based on ongoing assessment; coordinating chronic disease management including patient education, care planning, medication monitoring, and follow-up; collaborating on unit management.
* Well qualified: Evaluating nursing care, identifying learning needs for complex chronic disease patients and correctional staff, and participating in ongoing quality improvement activities.
* Additional Requirements: BLS certification (American Heart Association) with AED; ability to work up to 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week as needed; ability to perform physical tasks related to patient care (lift up to 40 lbs, move, etc.).

Job Details
* Not eligible for remote work; on-site at the institution.
* Typical schedule: 1:00 PM – 9:30 PM (5 days/week) with potential for 4 days/week 11:00 AM – 9:30 PM; weekends/holidays may be required; occasional overtime for coverage.
* FLSA Exempt; limited travel for training or meetings.
* Authorized to work in the United States; pre-employment drug screen and criminal background checks including fingerprinting.
