Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week. Monday to Friday (08:00 – 16:30, Monday to Thursday; 08:00 – 16:00 on Friday).
Overview
We’re on the lookout for friendly, enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to join the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police Transport Department. The Vehicle Technician will diagnose, repair, and maintain various vehicles, with strong mechanical knowledge and excellent customer service skills to ensure internal customer satisfaction. The staff, officers and volunteers of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police are here so that the people we serve, their families and our communities are safer. To deliver our quality public service, it is vital we can call upon our dynamic Police Fleet.
Responsibilities
* Diagnose, repair and maintain a variety of fleet vehicles, including cars and vans fitted with police equipment.
* Carry out the repair process from fault finding through to completion; ensure all vehicle repairs and maintenance for the police fleet are completed to a high standard.
* Work at the Basingstoke workshop on a range of fleet vehicles, including high performance cars for roads policing and armed response, and vans for public order operations used across the UK for mutual aid.
* Undertake servicing, repairs, vehicle road tests, and basic vehicle fits to ensure readiness for police use.
* Support local and national events as part of the role.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Strong mechanical knowledge; ability to work under pressure and unsupervised.
* Experience with diagnosing and repairing vehicles; ability to perform end-to-end repair processes.
* Continued professional development including MOT courses and IMI Level 3 accreditation for electric vehicles (EVs).
* All tools and clothing including PPE provided.

* Pay Grade: Scale 6, £36,247.00 - £38,329.00 per annum, which includes a £4,000 market supplement, plus overtime opportunities.
