An exciting opportunity to lead our MEICA portfolio in the Western region
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Project Manager with strong MEICA experience to take forward the delivery of the Environment Agency Wessex MEICA Framework.
Alongside framework leadership, the role includes preparing pricing and programme submissions for project‑based opportunities, supporting business growth, and managing day‑to‑day planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities in the region.
As the business reshapes workstreams across our Environment Agency, Canal & River Trust (CRT), and Highways (HRE) portfolios, the successful candidate will also have opportunities to support future regional opportunities as they emerge.
The Role
As Project Manager, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and high‑quality delivery of MEICA and civils workstreams across the Western region. You will ensure your team has the right skills, resources, and support to succeed, and you will play a key part in the mobilisation of the Wessex MEICA Framework as it transitions into regional ownership.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading the mobilisation and operational delivery of the EA Wessex MEICA Framework.
* Managing a structured handover from the outgoing PM to ensure continuity of delivery and client engagement.
* Overseeing pricing, programming, and tender submissions for additional project‑based work opportunities.
* Leading the day‑to‑day delivery of PPM activities across MEICA assets in the region.
* Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and aligned with all contractual, quality, and environmental requirements.
* Managing subcontractors and supply chain partners, maintaining high standards of efficiency, safety, and quality.
* Monitoring progress, identifying risks, and driving proactive mitigation strategies.
* Working closely with the Framework Manager and Delivery Teams to ensure change control and contract variations are managed effectively.
* Building strong relationships with clients and identifying opportunities for additional work across EA, CRT, HRE and wider regional portfolios.
About You (Requirements)
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences. Research shows that candidates from under represented groups often only apply when they meet all the requirement criteria, if you’re unsure but feel you could succeed in this role, we would still like to hear from you.
Ideal experience includes:
* Previous experience as a Project Manager or Senior Agent in a civils or MEICA engineering environment.
* Technical background in MEICA with working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems in flood defence or similar regulated environments.
* SMSTS (or willingness to obtain).
* Degree, HNC or HND in Engineering (or equivalent technical experience).
* A collaborative leadership style that supports inclusive team environments.
* Full UK Driving license
About the Business Unit
You’ll be joining a busy, fast‑paced engineering team delivering a range of multidisciplinary civils and MEICA works, including:
* Environment Agency flood defence and MEICA assets
* CRT and HRE infrastructure
* Rail (bridges, embankments, stations, tunnels, platforms)
* Minor works and capital maintenance/renewal projects
Our Western region works across established and long‑term client frameworks and tendered projects, delivering high‑quality engineering solutions in regulated and safety‑critical environments.
