Overview
We are looking for a field-based environmental field sampler to support the Environment Agency’s monitoring programme across the Central West. The role involves collecting samples from rivers, boreholes and built environments, recording data on smart devices, and driving across the South Shropshire‑Herefordshire‑Worcestershire region.
Responsibilities
* Collect environmental samples (water, surface or otherwise) following established protocols.
* Record field data accurately on a handheld device or tablet.
* Transport samples back to the base location each day.
* Operate equipment safely, maintain health and safety standards and follow operational guidance.
* Work independently for most of the shift, but also as part of a team surveying fish populations.
* Keep and update a log of all activities and sample data.
* Participate in face‑to‑face interviews scheduled around late November 2025.
Qualifications and Skills
* Full UK driving licence, comfortable driving a van and extensive driving across urban and rural areas.
* Basic computer literacy and experience with smartphone technology.
* Attention to detail and the ability to follow set instructions.
* Reliable and able to work independently or as part of a wider team.
* Navigational skills to find route across varied terrain.
* Comfortable working alone in and near water.
* Environmental background not required but desirable.
Competences
We assess three core competences: Data and Information Management, Achieves Results and Health, Safety & Wellbeing. Applicants will be asked to provide examples of:
* accurate data collection and record keeping;
* prioritising and organising tasks to meet delivery targets;
* applying health and safety knowledge in a field setting.
Working Hours
37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Location
The role is based at Kidderminster and will involve extensive travel across South Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the Black Country.
