Working hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week (typical working hours Mon - Fri: 09:00 - 17:00). You will be required to be on call rota on an average of one week in four.

On behalf of the Home Office, Serco manages the Asylum Accommodation and Support Services Contract (AASC) for the Midlands and East of England. We focus on assisting individuals through the asylum system, ensuring vulnerable asylum seekers have access to support and high-quality accommodation.
Our Housing Officers (HO’s) are responsible for ensuring compliance with the AASC Contract, company policies, processes, and procedures through liaising with staff, service users, landlords, external agencies, and partners. You will cover multiple areas in the Midlands region, ensuring that all properties within your portfolio are safe, habitable, fit for purpose, and fully equipped according to AASC standards. There is a requirement to operate an emergency on-call system outside normal working hours on a rota basis.
This role is suited to someone with a solid work history in face-to-face interactions and who enjoys a demanding workload. You will utilize your organizational skills, remain calm under pressure, and support our service users. You will need to travel between properties in the Black Country and Birmingham area, so a valid UK driver’s licence is essential. You should be enthusiastic about taking on responsibilities such as:
* Completing monthly inspections of all properties within your portfolio according to AASC standards and property standards guide.
* Managing the onboarding and withdrawal of properties within your portfolio in accordance with the Housing Officer Local Operating Procedures (LOP).
* Reporting all property faults, correctly categorizing them for appropriate response.
* Completing minor property repairs within your scope, based on training, experience, and the toolkit provided.
* Managing operational cash for tasks like topping up utility meters and emergency cash payments.
* Responding to customer complaints.
What you’ll need to do the role
Criminal Record Bureau checks are required due to the nature of the role. All employment offers are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office.
Previous experience in a property-related role is beneficial but not essential. Enthusiasm and a desire to make a difference are more important. You will be expected to handle various tasks supporting service users, including managing challenges such as anti-social behavior, medical needs, and child safeguarding.
You should have strong communication skills and confidence in managing conflict.
