We are looking for a talented and detail‑driven Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic Engineering Team within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will play a vital role in designing and detailing mechanical housings and enclosures for electronic systems used throughout the Defence and Cyber‑security sectors in line with detailed design specifications, working towards building a large offering of standard product lines as well as bespoke design solutions. You will support complete and create full product drawing packs to the highest of standards, get hands‑on and assist with the build of prototype units, with the opportunity to see the product from conception through to full product launch and maintain it through its lifespan.
Main Responsibilities :
* Design mechanical solutions that comply with the detailed design specification with the objective of completing within tight time frames and budgetary restraints driven by a competitive marketplace.
* Produce 2D detail drawings through SolidWorks to a company high standard for manufacturing & inspection predominantly sheet metal and machined components but not limited to.
* Provide design‑for‑cost solutions for product development that meet the technical requirements and company processes for manufacture.
* Produce assembly drawings and compile BoMs on the companys ERP system.
* Create and maintain product drawing packs and product design documentation.
* Support research and innovation projects prototype builds and developments.
* Develop strong relationships working with other design team members, production engineering and the test team to ensure that designs can be manufactured in a timely manner with a right‑first‑time approach.
* Support generation of project time plans to ensure successful delivery of development programmes.
* Actively support and implement drawing office procedures, maintain company document release and engineering change request procedures.
* Ensure that all environmental health and safety / company policies are adhered to at all times.
Education / Qualifications
* Preferred HNC in Mechanical Engineering or above.
* Further education / courses associated with mechanical engineering and membership of a recognised mechanical institute an advantage.
* 3‑5 years experience in a similar role.
Knowledge and Experience :
* Experience in designing and drafting using 3D and 2D CAD tools preferably SolidWorks.
* A strong understanding of manufacturing processes and their associated cost drivers.
* Clear understanding of fabrication, sheet metal, machined components and manufacturing practices.
* Knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

* Based within a 40 mile radius of the site.
