The Communications Specialist (CS) plays a central role in designing, coordinating, and delivering clear, accessible, and engaging student-facing communications across the NYU London site. Working collaboratively with professional staff, senior leadership, student staff, and student leaders, the CS ensures that NYU London students receive timely, consistent, and high-quality information from pre-arrival through departure. This newly created role offers an exciting opportunity for a communications professional with strong creative instincts, systems-oriented thinking, and the flexibility to help shape a growing function within NYU London.
Responsibilities
Student-Facing Communications (40%)
* Develop a centralised and consistent approach to student emails, including design, tone, and timing.
* Lead on creating and maintaining a coherent communications identity for NYU London.
* Coordinate timely information-sharing with students regarding events, opportunities, policies, and general updates.
* Manage the production and distribution of The London Lowdown student newsletter.
* Oversee digital signage and ensure content remains accurate and engaging.
* Build and maintain a repository and annual “communications heatmap” to track messaging across the student journey.
Student Communications Advising (20%)
* Support student leaders in planning and producing effective communications.
* Guide students in creating digital content for official NYU London social media channels.
* Advise student teams in producing Baedecker, NYU London’s student-driven magazine.
Website Management (15%)
* Collaborate with the NYU Office of Global Programs on website alignment, branding, and workflow.
* Keep the NYU London website and internal Google Site updated with accurate, clear, and accessible information.
* Review online content regularly to maintain consistency of tone, accuracy, and user experience.
Supervision & Communications Leadership (15%)
* Provide leadership for one administrator-level staff member supporting communications delivery and office functions.
* Offer training and development to staff on communications systems, workflows, and best practices.
Staff-Facing Communications (5%)
* Create and maintain an effective system for sharing internal announcements and weekly updates with staff.
* Work with NYU London Human Resources to ensure staff email distribution lists remain accurate.
Student Life General Duties (5%)
* Contribute to Student Life operations during peak periods such as orientations, arrivals, major events, and departures.
* Provide occasional front-desk cover and assist with other duties as needed.
* Participate in the on-call duty rota, supporting urgent situations and collaborating with senior staff.
* Work non-traditional hours (evenings, weekends, bank holidays) as required.
