Key Responsibilities

The primary purpose of this role is to serve as a technical leader on project teams in nonclinical safety, leveraging a strong understanding of their scientific area and accumulated experience in related areas. The incumbent will be expected to apply advanced knowledge of scientific principles and the drug development process to solve complex problems creatively and effectively. The individual will work in ambiguous situations, making go/no-go decisions and assisting in experiment and project design to achieve departmental and team goals.

This position requires a strong understanding of departmental direction and strategy, with the ability to provide input and oversee logistics and resource deployment to ensure project execution and high-quality data delivery. The individual will translate plans into operational processes, understanding that erroneous decisions could impact near-term plans and results.

The role involves explaining complex concepts and influencing others to adopt different viewpoints, networking with senior internal and external representatives, and demonstrating leadership through proactive project team participation, internal consulting, and mentoring.

Foundational people management skills are essential, including providing clear direction, actively listening to team members, and creating a climate that promotes empowerment and autonomy. The role involves managing performance and development of team members, providing challenging work, constructive feedback, and learning opportunities. The individual will operate from a base of trust, empowerment, and enablement, nurturing creativity and recognizing strong performance. They will model continuous improvement, implement positive adjustments, and serve as an example of living the company’s values.

Key Responsibilities:

* Conduct experiments; observe, interpret and respond to the results
* Communicate findings to manager & colleagues
* Conduct and analyse standard cell and molecular biology assays supporting novel cell-based assay development or preclinical IND or CTA enabling data packages in accordance with set timelines
* Lead preclinical efforts for specific programmes/projects, in collaboration with the programme team and other functions
* Proactively suggest lines of investigation in drug discovery projects and contribute to process enhancement activities by suggesting new technologies and/or developing new methodologies
* Present or contribute to communication of results, e.g. presentations in meetings, contribution to slide decks for meetings, preclinical study report writing
* Contribute to the operational running and maintenance of multidisciplinary cell Biology laboratories and equipment
* Operate in accordance with the Company’s Codes of Practices and Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) policies


Education, Experience and Knowledge

Essential Qualifications

* Normally requires a PhD in a scientific discipline and a minimum of 5-8 years related experience; may include post-doctoral experience.
* Or MSc degree or BSc degree with extensive role-specific equivalent research or industrial experience.

Preferred Qualifications

* Familiarity with some or all of the following methods is desirable:

Cytokine release and T cell activation assays (e.g. ELISA or ELISPOT), Incucyte and xCELLigence platforms. Primary, iPSC & organoid cell culture. Flow cytometry and immunofluorescent microscopy

R script

Molecular techniques, for example CRISPR

* Demonstrable experience contributing preclinical data, study reports or documentation to a support an IND or CTA is desirable
