Role : Lead Engineer : DES Model Engineer
Location: Gaydon
Contract: Inside IR35
Role Summary
The DES Model Engineer is responsible for leading the Discrete Event Simulation (DES) function across vehicle or system programmes within Manufacturing Engineering. You will model production process flow from concept phase through to delivery, ensuring system performance aligns with defined operational, quality, cost and delivery objectives.
The DES Model Engineer will drive optimisation, bottleneck resolution and throughput improvement, ensuring programme KPIs are achieved through robust simulation modelling and cross:functional collaboration.
Role and Responsibilities of the Lead Engineer: DES Model
* Lead development and delivery of the Discrete Event Simulation model from concept through to a fully detailed programme mimic aligned to scope and performance metrics
* Ensure DES models achieve defined JPH throughput targets and system OPR requirements, including cycle time, decoupling buffers and operational availability
* Deliver DES models and supporting documentation in line with programme timing milestones.
* Lead system optimisation activities, cost avoidance initiatives and best practice capture across programmes
* Conduct detailed bottleneck analysis and implement strategies to remove constraints
* Lead volume throughput increase studies and what:if scenario analysis to validate system robustness
* Guide vehicle derivative sequencing and build:to:sequence rule adherence within simulation models
* Present outputs through dashboards, design reviews and project reviews to senior stakeholders
* Collaborate with ME Programme Process, Layout and VME teams, Programme Standards and Controls, Production and Maintenance, MBO Programme Teams and Build to Sequence / Scheduling teams
* Mentor and develop junior team members and graduates, supporting capability growth within the DES function
Requirements Of the Role
* Demonstrable working knowledge and experience of Discrete Event Simulation toolsets
* Previous experience using Lanner Witness or Siemens Technomatix Plant Simulation
* Proven experience in production process flow simulation and problem solving on complex technical systems
* Demonstrable experience conducting bottleneck analysis using Discrete Event Simulation
* Experience delivering DES models to defined programme KPIs including throughput, efficiency, timing and delivery
* Background working within production or manufacturing sites
* Thorough understanding and practical application of Lean tools and techniques
* Proven project and people management capability
* Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Teams and Excel
* Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred
* Experience within automotive production environments (desirable)
