3 month contract role with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• Swindon Borough Council is seeking an experienced Interim Director of Safeguarding and Support to provide strategic leadership within Children’s Services while the council undertakes permanent recruitment.
• The role will focus on overseeing safeguarding arrangements, ensuring statutory responsibilities are met, and maintaining high standards of protection and support for vulnerable children and families.
• The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership teams and partners to drive safeguarding performance, service improvement, and compliance with regulatory frameworks.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Provide strategic leadership and oversight of safeguarding and support services within Children’s Services.
• Ensure statutory safeguarding duties are delivered effectively in line with national legislation and regulatory standards.
• Support senior leadership in maintaining high-quality safeguarding practice and service performance.
• Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners including health, education, and law enforcement to protect vulnerable children and young people.
• Oversee safeguarding policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
• Provide professional leadership and guidance to safeguarding teams and managers.
• Monitor service performance, risk management, and compliance with safeguarding standards.
• Support service improvement initiatives and contribute to organisational development within Children’s Services.
• Represent the council at strategic meetings and partnership boards relating to safeguarding and child protection.

Skills/Experience:
• Significant senior leadership experience within Children’s Services or safeguarding environments.
• Strong knowledge of statutory safeguarding responsibilities and child protection legislation.
• Proven experience leading safeguarding services within a local authority or public sector setting.
• Experience working with multi-agency safeguarding partnerships.
• Strong leadership, strategic planning, and decision-making skills.
• Experience managing service performance, governance, and risk within safeguarding frameworks.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to provide professional leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary teams.

Additional Information:
• Bi-Weekly Payments.
• Working Pattern: 3 days per week (office-based).
• Limited/Umbrella: £728.29 per day.
• Location: Civic Campus, Euclid Street, Swindon.
