Contracts Manager | Painting & Decorating
Grays, Essex
Hours | 8am to 4pm
£60, | Company vehicle or allowance

The Role at a Glance
If you are someone who thrives on being out on site and enjoys keeping projects moving, this could be a brilliant next step. Around 80% of your time will be site-based, with the remaining time spent in the Grays office, supporting planning and project coordination. You will also be travelling across London and the South East, so you will need to enjoy being on the go.
This opportunity is perfect for someone who has genuine experience managing painting & decorating contracts and prefers working for a company that values real, hands on experience over a corporate CV.
About the Opportunity
I am working with a long standing contractor who specialises in commercial painting & decorating and has a genuinely warm, close knit feel to the business. They are looking for a confident Contracts Manager who can take ownership of multiple live projects, ensuring everything runs smoothly, safely, and to a high standard.
You will be the person tying everything together, people, progress, quality, costs, and client relationships.
What You Will Be Getting Involved In
1. Overseeing several live projects at once
2. Coordinating works from handover right through to completion
3. Managing labour, quality checks, timelines, and daily site activity
4. Leading both supervisors and subcontracted painting teams
5. Handling variations, pricing additional works, and keeping costs on track
6. Attending site and client meetings and being the goto contact
7. Ensuring all H&S processes are followed (RAMS, COSHH, CDM etc.)
8. Supporting valuations, progress reporting, and final accounts
What You Will Need to Bring
9. Strong background as a Contracts Manager or Senior Site Manager in painting & decorating (or a closely aligned trade)
10. Comfortable overseeing multiple projects at once
11. Experience working with subcontract labour
12. Confident, professional, and great at building relationships
13. Full UK driving licence
Great to Have (But Not Essential)
14. Experience working in live/occupied environments such as schools, hospitals, or residential buildings
15. Good commercial understanding, especially around variations
16. SMSTS or SSSTS
17. Management - level CSCS
Who Will Love This Role
Someone who enjoys variety, thrives under pressure, and takes pride in delivering high quality projects. You will be organised, approachable, and solutions focused and you will feel right at home in a business that values loyalty, honesty, and genuine teamwork.
If this sounds like your next move, I would love to hear from you!
