Job Description
The Environment Agency is fully committed to having an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We don't just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it, and live it for the benefit of our staff, communities, and environment.
Role Overview
Do you want to drive forward the circular economy and influence future waste legislation? We’re looking for a Senior Advisor to join our Producer Responsibility team to help deliver the Government’s Resources and Waste Strategy.
You’ll collaborate with Environment Agency colleagues, Defra, UK devolved administrations, and industry to implement significant legislative reforms. You can make a tangible difference.
You’ll need to be adaptable, self-motivated, and capable of translating policy into action. Your involvement will span various aspects of our work, especially:
1. Working closely with stakeholders across government, industry, and the Environment Agency to influence and implement legislation on workstreams such as Packaging and Deposit Return Scheme, among others.
2. Providing technical advice within the Environment Agency and to industry partners.
3. Driving reforms in waste management to change how waste is managed in England, including shaping digital systems and policy development.
Our dispersed team uses smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel, though some travel and overnight stays may be required.
The Team
You’ll join the Producer Responsibility Team, which leads waste regulation reforms to help conserve resources by minimizing waste. We promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture where everyone feels valued, leveraging evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation to influence policy, legislation, and resource allocation.

In your responses, please demonstrate your ability to:
* Work effectively with diverse backgrounds and cultures, encouraging consideration of diversity issues.
* Negotiate outcomes and positively influence colleagues.
* Build trusting, respectful relationships.
* Make risk-based decisions to achieve optimal outcomes.
* Possess knowledge of environmental legislation, especially waste management laws.
* Drive innovation and make things happen.
