Senior Nurse for Safeguarding & Public Protection

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated safeguarding professional to join the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board as Senior Nurse Safeguarding and Public Protection (Band 8a). This senior leadership role provides expert advice, guidance and operational oversight to support the Health Board in meeting its statutory responsibilities across the full safeguarding and public protection agenda.
The role involves leading and developing safeguarding services across children's safeguarding, adults at risk, looked‑after children, domestic abuse, MAPPA, MARAC, Prevent and wider public protection, while supporting high standards of governance, assurance, partnership working and continuous improvement. It also includes day‑to‑day management of the Corporate Safeguarding Team, Multi‑agency safeguarding Hub (MASH) and Children Looked‑After team, alongside delivery of training, audit, policy implementation and service development.
Main duties of the job
- Advise and support the Safeguarding agenda to ensure consistency with national, regional and local legislation, policies and best practice.
- Support the team to discharge statutory obligations under all relevant legislation for Safeguarding and Public Protection, including the Social Services and Well‑being (Wales) Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Act (Wales) 2016.
- Ensure appropriate systems and policies are in place for public protection, including Child Protection, Looked‑After Children, Adults at Risk and Domestic Abuse, as well as wider Public Protection remit including MAPPA, MARAC and Prevent.
- Establish effective arrangements for regular review, monitoring and continuous improvement to support high standards of Safeguarding practice.
- Participate in staff training and provide line management of the Safeguarding Specialists and Administration Team within the Corporate Safeguarding Team.
- Be responsible for day‑to‑day management of the Health Board’s Corporate Safeguarding Team, Multi‑agency safeguarding Hub (MASH) and Children Looked‑After team (CLA).
Person Specification
Knowledge
- Expert knowledge of the Children’s Act 1989/2004, Social Services and Well‑being (Wales) Act 2014, Wales Safeguarding procedures 2019 and related statutory guidance and regulations.
- Master’s degree in a relevant qualification specific to the specialty.
Experience
- Relevant practical experience of working within the safeguarding of children and adults arena.
- Experience working with partner agencies to safeguard children and adults.
