Are you a Registered Nurse or ODP looking for your next career step? Do you want to be involved in leading a new team and service development? The new Surgical Hub at Dewsbury and District Hospital is looking for a Band 6 Team Leader to be based in day case Theatres and PACU for a 12 month period.
The state‑of‑the‑art elective unit is one of several hubs now open across the country, aimed at tackling Covid‑related backlogs, increasing clinical capacity and improving patient care and experience. The unit has 2 theatres for day case operating under general anaesthetic, 4 treatment rooms for minor operations and procedures under local anaesthetic, and 10 outpatient clinic rooms.
The hub focuses on the provision of high volume, low complexity day case procedures from within the following surgical specialties Plastics, OMFS, Gynaecology, Pain Management, Urology, Vascular, Colorectal, General surgery, Upper GI, Opthamology, ENT and Podiatric.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in clinical leadership, teambuilding, and communication skills. The candidate must have experience in working within the surgical speciality within theatres and have excellent clinical skills. The candidate should be committed to providing excellent patient care and should be able to lead others to provide high quality care.
The successful candidate should have experience of leading a team, including managing staffing, skill mix, sickness and monitoring standards of care provided to our patients. The post holder will uphold the trust values and behaviours, act as role model to colleagues, junior members of staff and students. The candidate will be expected to participate in recruitment and selection, audit and managing daily patient flow through the unit. The candidate will take charge of the department in the absence of the Unit Manager.
The candidate is expected to be flexible and ready to uptake further learning and personal development enabling them to work within all areas of the Surgical Hub including acting as a Scrub Person, Anaesthetic Assistant, Recovery Person, Circulating Person, Escort Person and oversee the running of Outpatient Clinics, Major Treatment Rooms, Arrivals and Discharge within the limitations of the post holder’s qualifications.
