Role Title: Senior C&I Engineer (Safety) We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. We are now recruiting for a Senior Control and Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer with safety experience to be involved with an industry-leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station. About the Role In this role, you’ll provide safety case support for all C&I systems and the overall C&I architecture within the RR SMR programme. You’ll ensure safety case requirements are clearly defined and embedded into engineering design activities, drive alignment between safety case documentation and C&I system design, and maintain and update the Claims, Arguments, and Evidence (CAE) structure for C&I systems. You’ll apply ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable), BAT (Best Available Techniques), and relevant good practice (RGP) principles, ensure compliance with SMR Environment, Safety, Security, and Safeguards (E3S) Principles, and review engineering documentation to ensure it is fit-for-purpose and aligned with E3S requirements. This role involves collaboration across engineering disciplines and supply chain partners to deliver robust C&I safety case solutions. We’ll Need You To: Provide safety case support for all C&I systems and architecture Ensure safety case requirements are embedded into engineering design activities Drive alignment between safety case documentation and C&I system design Maintain and update CAE structures for C&I systems Apply ALARP, BAT, and RGP principles Ensure compliance with SMR E3S Principles Review engineering documentation for alignment with E3S requirements Key Skills Required: Previous experience within the nuclear industry is desirable, but experience in highly regulated industries (e.g., Nuclear, Defence, Aerospace, Oil & Gas) is beneficial Degree-level qualification in electrical engineering or a related subject (or equivalent experience) Strong understanding of safety case principles and regulatory compliance Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multi-disciplinary teams Location: Hybrid working with one of the following locations as your primary site: Derby, Manchester or Warrington. Salary and Package: The salary band for this will be between £51,600–£67,725 dependent on the skills, values, and knowledge you bring. There may be some flexibility with the starting salary in exceptional cases, and, in due course, there is the potential for you to develop the role further.
