Job Description:
Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity to be part of our team of medical examiners and invite applications from consultants and General Practitioners to join our Medical Examiner service.
From 9th September 2024, it will be a legal requirement for all deaths in healthcare settings not investigated by a coroner to be reviewed by the medical examiner. The Medical Examiner system offers independent scrutiny of deaths, provides a voice for the bereaved, and offers support.
Medical examiners are accountable to medical directors within trusts and also have a professional line of accountability to the Lead Medical Examiner and National/Regional Medical Examiners.
Main duties of the job
The service currently reviews all deaths at University College London Hospitals, Great Ormond Street Hospital, the Royal Marsden Hospitals, Moorfields Eye Hospital, and the Camden community. We have established strong relationships with local GPs, care homes, and registrars. We are looking to fill regular sessions on Mondays and some flexibility on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Priority will be given to those who have completed their ME training.
For more information, please visit the Royal College of Pathologists website or contact Dr. Sally Wilson, Lead Medical Examiner, to discuss the role. Please consult your DCD or Practice Lead before submitting an expression of interest to understand how this role can fit within your current responsibilities.
Candidates must complete the mandatory online e-learning modules (free) and attend a face-to-face training session at the Royal College of Pathologists, London, paid for by the Trust, within the first three months of employment.
