Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for Ward Clerk in the Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit. The role involves providing efficient, effective and comprehensive administrative support for the department/SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care).
Duties will include administrative tasks such as record keeping, data entry, filing, scanning, dealing with telephone queries, checking and updating patient information with clinical staff, managers and patients, communicating information verbally and in writing, providing routine information for patients and staff for discharge, admission, transfers and making appointments, and handling barriers to understanding such as anxious patients, relatives, cultural differences, and language or communication difficulties.
Main duties of the job
Updating patient management systems, answering calls, greeting patients and relatives, preparing notes, supporting the nursing team with all aspects of ward administration, booking return patients for appointments and scans.

Essential – Qualifications
* High level of literacy and numeracy
* GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
Essential – Experience
* Demonstrable experience of administrative & clerical systems and processes
* Fully conversant with information and other IT systems
* Experience in Microsoft including Outlook, Word and Excel
Essential – Skills and Knowledge
* Ability to deal with difficult/anxious people using tact and diplomacy
* Excellent organisational skills to manage own workload and assist in running a smooth service
