Paediatric Consultant with a Special Interest in Epilepsy

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our Paediatric Consultant Team based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary with an expectation to work across all our hospital sites. We are looking for 3 enthusiastic and forward‑looking permanent Paediatric Consultants, 2 with a Special Interest in Neonatology and 1 with a Special Interest in Respiratory Medicine who will contribute to further development and delivery of exceptional care of the Paediatric Service.
Applications are welcome from anyone possessing, or within 6 months of receiving, a CCST in Paediatrics at the time of commencing employment and who have the appropriate skills and experience within a Paediatric Unit and SPIN module as a minimum in the area of Specialist Interest.
Main duties of the job
* To share responsibility with consultant colleagues for the provision of integrated Paediatric medical services across Children's Services on both sites.
* To work with the multi-disciplinary team providing Clinical Services on different trust sites.
* To provide supervision, training and support specifically to resident doctors but also to other members of the nursing and medical teams across Children's Services. This also includes undergraduate teaching and workplace-based assessments.
* To be actively involved with the planning and development of the service, in conjunction with the Clinical Director, General Manager and colleagues across the Division.
* To be committed to actively participating in clinical work with a robust evidence base and consistent with professional consensus views.
* To maintain a high standard of record keeping in accordance with Trust guidelines.
* On Call Commitment
General Paediatric on‑call, including weekday out of hours and weekends, is 1:9 with prospective cover. Daytime, on‑call, Monday - Friday, is as 1:6 CotW alternating in DRI and BDGH (for General Paediatric post but for neonatal interest post the CotW will be based at DRI only).

Person Specification
Qualifications
* MRCPCH/MBBCh/APLS/EPLS/NLS Child protection training Level 3 Full GMC registration or equivalent
* You must be on the specialist register for Paediatrics or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of Doctors must be eligible to be on the GMC specialist register (evidence required prior to commencement) to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee
* Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise
Experience
* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Paediatrics
* Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on range of problems within the specialty
* Wide based experience in Paediatrics
* Attendance at a recognised management course
Practical/Intellectual Skills/Personal Qualities
* Ability to use IT Systems – inc Word, Excel, PowerPoint Outlook

Teaching and training

* A minimum of 12 months training in Paediatric Speciality leading to completion of the SPIN module or equivalent
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on a range of issues within the speciality
* Ability to provide consultant level leadership during the day and out of hours in General Paediatrics
* Experience of and commitment to clinical audit
* Experience of writing and developing clinical guidelines and applying them in practice
* Experience of teaching medical students
* Understanding of NHS clinical governance and risk management
