What you can expect from us:
You will also have two school mentors who will work with you throughout your school placement.
Professional Mentor They are usually a senior member of the school who supports all trainees, allowing them to have an overview of students' progress and to moderate your final placement results.
Your Professional Mentor will:
Organise a school induction course for you
Coordinate a school-based professional studies course
Meet with you at strategic points in the course
Support you in completing generic university tasks and assignments
Observe you teaching
Quality assure your progress and portfolio
Be the person you should contact about any whole-school issues
Subject Mentor
They are responsible for providing regular support in school to help you develop as a subject teacher.
Your Subject Mentor will:
Introduce you to your department, including introducing you to all relevant professionals and familiarising you with subject-specific facilities and resources
Support you in accessing departmental and whole school data and resources
Set up your timetable and liaise with the Professional Mentor to adjust it at appropriate times in the course
Carry out a weekly meeting of approximately one hour to discuss your progress, work with you to set appropriate targets and suggest how you will be able to meet these targets
Contribute to your learning in the weekly meeting and at other appropriate points in the course
Regularly observe your lessons and give you written formative feedback on a lesson observation form
Monitor and discuss your periodic engagement with self-efficacy
Monitor your portfolio, including lesson planning, resources, assessment evidence, and other relevant materials.

Support you in completing subject-specific university tasks and assignments
Liaise with your university tutor to enable quality assurance to occur
Be the key person who will complete and share placement reports with you
Our expectations of you:
Communication Expectations
Check your university communications at least twice a day for any updates or news.
Check your school email at least twice daily. Our schools distribute daily / weekly bulletins, and they include important updates for that day / week.
Check your school’s Teams channels at least twice daily. Our schools frequently communicate any changing details of events or lesson cover by instant chat.
Your school Subject Mentor is your first point of contact for any queries.
Once established in the school, you will receive local induction information and key details about how to inform the school of any absences.
Student Teacher Obligations
Consistently refer back to the Teachers' Standards (DFE, 2013).
Use your observations of other Teachers to actively locate examples of the Standards.
Use observations of you by your Mentor to actively rehearse ways to meet the Standards, including the skills, knowledge, character, values, behaviour and health that is needed to teach safely and effectively.
Use opportunities to engage with staff, students and wider stakeholders to actively uphold public confidence in the teaching profession.
Attendance Expectations
Excellent attendance demonstrates your professionalism as outlined in Part 2 of the Standards.
Consistent attendance is a fundamental part of your learning experience. Make yourself available to undertake all activities relating to your course.
ITT Placement
Professional and Academic Expectations
You are expected to attend all school placement days. You will be taking on some of the timetables of our regular teachers, so it is important that we know in advance if you are unable to attend for any reason.
You should inform your Mentor of any intensive training weeks arranged at university (sometimes referred to as ITAP weeks) in advance.
