Business Development Manager – Flat Roofing Systems


Reporting to: Managing Director

Locations:

- Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Surrey

- Bristol Area

- Manchester Area

- Southeastern Scotland


Our client is a market‑leading UK distributor of premium flat roofing systems, renowned for quality and technical expertise. They’re looking for driven Business Development Managers to spearhead growth of their flat roofing range within the residential (and commercial) construction sectors, selling to builders’ merchants / stockists and smaller roofing contractors.


What matters most is the ability to sell, the drive to develop a territory, and the credibility to build lasting relationships with contractors, merchants, and other trade customers.


Experience in the building products, construction materials, or related trades sectors is an advantage, but is not a prerequisite for the right candidate.


This is a field‑based role that combines new business development with account management, offering the opportunity to take ownership of under resourced / marketed territory and build partnerships with contractors, stockists and specifiers.

Key Responsibilities

* Identify, target, and win new business opportunities across the assigned territory.
* Develop and deliver a structured territory sales plan to achieve and exceed ambitious growth targets.
* Strengthen key contractor and distributor accounts through long‑term collaboration.
* Deliver CPDs, technical presentations, and hands‑on product demonstrations.
* Provide sound technical advice on installation best practices, compliance, and system suitability.
* Analyse competitor activity and market trends, sharing insights with senior management to inform commercial decisions.
* Collaborate with internal teams — technical, estimating, marketing, and operations — to support promotions and project success.


Experience and Skills

Essential

* A proven track record in field sales, with demonstrable results against territory or revenue targets.
* Strong new business development skills: the ability to open, nurture, and close opportunities.
* Confident communicator with the credibility to build relationships at contractor, merchant, and trade level.
* Self-managed and disciplined: comfortable running a territory without day-to-day supervision.
* Resilient, proactive, and motivated by results.
* Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

* Experience selling into the building, construction, roofing, or related trades sectors.
* Existing relationships with roofing or building contractors, merchants, or distributors.
* Familiarity with specification-led sales or working with architects and consultants.
* Experience using a CRM system to manage pipeline and activity.

Technical product knowledge is fully trainable. We provide structured onboarding and ongoing technical support to all BDMs. If you can sell, build relationships, and develop a territory, we will give you everything you need to become a credible product expert.
