Process Development Chemist
Location: Weymouth, Dorset
About the Role
We are seeking a Process Development Chemist to join our team and drive process optimization across our manufacturing operations. In this role, you will monitor and evaluate NPI and plant processing data to identify opportunities for improvement, reduce cycle times, minimize waste, and support cost reduction initiatives—all while ensuring quality, safety, and productivity targets are met.
Key Responsibilities
* Analyze and interpret processing data to identify areas for efficiency gains and waste reduction.
* Support the transfer and industrialization of new parts and processes into mainstream production.
* Act as the chemical and technical expert, providing solutions to complex production issues.
* Research and recommend new technologies and process improvements to enhance operational capacity.
* Conduct experimental work and scheduled sampling under local control systems.
* Collaborate with SHE initiatives for new chemistry product assessments.
* Deliver training and technical support for trial manufacturing and new process introductions.
* Manage effluent treatment plant sampling to ensure compliance.
* Prepare technical manuals, work instructions, and training plans for new processes.
* Promote company values and act as a role model for best practices.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
* Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
* Strong data analysis and presentation skills.
* Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
* Knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes and SHE/quality compliance.
* Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
Preferred:
* Experience with Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.
* Knowledge of Photo Chemical Machining or photolithographic processes.
* Background in materials science or metallurgical knowledge.
* Familiarity with FMEA and chemical reactivity assessments.
* 2+ years of R&D experience.
* Knowledge of and experience in project work
