Job Summary
To support individuals, often vulnerable, who have faced homelessness and require support accommodation, require help in accessing and maintaining housing, managing benefits (including housing benefits), and developing independent living skills. This role often involves working with ex-offenders, people aged from 18-65, or those with complex needs such as mental health issues or substance misuse.
Key Responsibilities:
* Help residents apply for and manage housing benefits and other entitlements 1.
* Support individuals in budgeting, paying service charge, and maintaining supported tenancy agreements.
* Assist with daily living skills and promote independence.
* Liaise with external agencies (e.g., housing authorities, social services).
* Develop and review personalised support plans.
* Provide crisis intervention and respond to challenging behaviour.
* Maintain accurate records and case notes.
* Facilitate access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities.
* Provide advice on welfare benefits including Universal Credit, PIP, ESA, Housing Benefit, and Carer’s Allowance.
* Assist clients with completing benefit applications and appeals.
* Liaise with the DWP, local authorities, and other statutory bodies.
* Conduct home visits or outreach sessions as needed.
* Maintain accurate and confidential case records.
* Keep up to date with welfare reforms and legal changes.
* Deliver talks or attend events to raise awareness of available support.
Skills & Qualifications:
* Experience supporting individuals with housing-related needs.
* Strong communication and organisational skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Experience in welfare rights, social care, or advice services.
* Strong knowledge of the UK benefits system.
* Ability to manage a caseload and meet deadlines.
* IT literacy for case management and reporting.
* Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach.
