CLINICAL RESEARCH FELLOW IN GYNAECOLOGY

The closing date is 19 August 2025

This post is designed for candidates at ST3 level and above who wish to obtain a postgraduate degree (PhD or equivalent).

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of academic leads within the department on developing original research projects on the diagnosis and management of ectopic pregnancy and other early pregnancy complications. These studies are expected to lead to publications in international peer-review journals and form the basis of the candidate's PhD thesis. In addition, the candidate will be expected to help with the organisation and running of multicentre randomised clinical trials, which are part of clinical research activity in the Unit. They will also be expected to take a leading role within the team of clinical fellows.

The department also offers one-year clinical fellowships for those looking to develop gynaecology ultrasound skills. Potential candidates may separately apply for the clinical fellow role and the clinical research fellow role, as and when advertised, if they wish to be considered for either or both positions.

This post is available from April 2026.

The interviews will be held the week commencing 1st September 2025.

Main duties of the job

In the initial months, the aim will be to develop skills in gynaecological and early pregnancy ultrasound. Concurrently, candidates will continue work on protocols and ethics applications related to their research thesis.

Once recruitment and data collection commence, they will recruit patients from the clinical caseload, with allocated time for research training, data collection, and analysis.

The candidate will also take a leading role among the fellows, including managing the fellows' rota, organising research meetings, and providing teaching and training within the department.

The successful candidate should demonstrate energy, enthusiasm, a proactive attitude, flexibility, and a commitment to the work schedule. Effective teamwork within a multidisciplinary environment is essential.
