Junior Systems Engineer
Location: Seasalt Falmouth, England, United Kingdom
Responsibilities
* Supporting the implementation and maintenance of our business-critical IT infrastructure.
* Testing and deploying new technologies and business applications, following appropriate approval, under the guidance of the Systems Manager.
* Maintaining cyber security defences by deploying and maintaining endpoint protection, application patches, and firmware updates.
* Assisting internal teams (including the Problem Management function) and third-party providers in the resolution of major incidents and investigating known issues, introducing workarounds for recurring incidents.
* Utilising system monitoring tools to assist the Availability and Capacity Engineer in ensuring targets are met.
* Maintaining architecture diagrams and documentation relating to hardware and application infrastructure.
* Monitoring backups of systems and data, ensuring they have completed successfully, escalating where further action may be required.
* Adhering to information security and data protection procedures in line with relevant legislation, regulation, and company policies.
* Ensuring all support and implementation activities are recorded within the relevant IT Service Management (ITSM) or Project Management systems.
* Participating in regular stand‑ups, team meetings, and reviews of overdue tickets with the Infrastructure and Security team.
* Performing daily system checks and monitoring of alerts.
* Contributing towards standard operating procedures (SOPs), Works Instructions (WIs) and Knowledgebase articles.
* Championing service improvement initiatives and identifying lessons learned opportunities.
Qualifications
* Computer related certifications or relevant experience.
* Previous experience in a technical support or engineering role.
* The ability to work closely with internal teams and external suppliers, communicating by phone, e‑mail and face‑to‑face in a professional manner.
* Experience in supporting various Microsoft operating systems (Windows 10 and Windows 11) and Microsoft office applications.
* Experiencing using Active Directory and good working knowledge of DHCP and DNS.
* Problem solving and multitasking skills.
* A constant learner, familiar with current technology.
* Demonstrates the ability to take responsibility and initiative.
* Experience of working in a fast‑paced deadline driven environment and able to remain calm under pressure.
* Strong organisational and planning skills.
* Motivated, driven and proactive.
* Flexible and adaptable.
