Hutcheon Mearns have been engaged to source a Financial Controller on a full time, staff basis. This role will be based in Aberdeen City Centre with hybrid working and flexibility. The role is offered on a 35 hour per week basis with a highly competitive benefits package. The Financial Controller will provide strategic financial leadership and lead the finance team, overseeing financial planning and reporting, compliance, and internal controls, improving financial processes, automation and leveraging data analytics to enhance decision-making. Our client is looking for a qualified Financial Controller with extensive experience managing a finance function and leading a team. You must be technical, dynamic and confident pushing through changes and improving processes. The Opportunity Lead the finance team, mentor and develop team members by setting clear objectives aligned with organisational goals Act as a trusted advisor, providing clear financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making at all levels Prepare and review monthly management accounts on a timely basis, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles Prepare financial reports and recommendations Analyse financial performance, explain variances from budget, prior year or expectations Develop automated financial reporting tools and dashboards for real-time data driven decision-making Execute budgeting, forecasting and 5 year plan processes, working with department heads to set financial targets Use data analytics and financial intelligence to enhance budgeting accuracy and resource allocation Monitor sector trends, conduct financial modelling and scenario analysis to optimise long-term financial performance and competitive positioning Regularly review the organisations financial position, identifying areas for improvement Supervise daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger Manage day-to-day relationships with external auditors, coordinate the audit process, implement audit recommendations and new procedures to carry them forward Oversee cash flow forecasting and management, ensuring sufficient liquidity to meet operational needs Support in managing banking relationships and financing arrangements by providing detailed analysis and recommendations, while maintaining day-to-day banking operations Oversee timely and accurate tax filings (corporate tax, VAT, payroll taxes) Lead the automation in financial processes, leveraging technology to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capabilities Background and Experience Qualified Accountant (ICAS/CIMA/ACCA) 10 years of experience with at least 5 years in a supervisory position Strong understanding of financial regulations, tax laws, and accounting principles Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong attention to detail, with the ability to analyse complex financial data to support strategic decision making Flexibility and Benefits 35 hour week 37 days annual leave Enhanced employer pension Competitive salary Excellent working environment Next Steps If you are interested in taking the next step in your career or feel a change of environment or sector is your next path, this could be the ideal job opportunity for you!
