About the Role
The Senior Research Associate (Level B) is expected to carry out independent and/or team research related to equity, diversity, and/or inclusion in STEM and to develop expertise within their particular field. The role involves conducting research scoped as part of the Future You program, with primary activities including systematic review and/or meta‑analysis, and may also include empirical research evaluating the impact of the program on key audiences. This work is guided by, and will inform refinement of, a Theory of Change that underpins program design and evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage in individual and/or collaborative research in a manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
- Create scholarly impact in the discipline recognised by peers in advancing disciplinary knowledge.
- Conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision, either independently or as a member of a team.
- Establish a personal research portfolio and begin developing independent research proposals.
- Mentor students and colleagues, and support the next generation of academics through supervision of research trainees.
- Design and carry out systematic review and/or meta‑analysis of work scoped within the guiding Theory of Change for the Future You program.
- Carry out empirical research evaluating the impact of the Future You program resources.
- Lead reporting of research findings to funders, stakeholders, and scholarly communities via reports, academic manuscripts, and oral presentations.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
- Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and ensure that actions do not compromise health and safety.
Qualifications and Experience
- A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
- Proven commitment to staying up‑to‑date with research on equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Demonstrated high‑quality, high‑impact research record with evidence of research excellence and leadership potential.
- Track record of significant involvement with research funded by government, industry, and/or philanthropic partners.
- Ability to report research findings in traditional academic outlets (e.g., journal articles) and for non‑academic stakeholders (e.g., government, funders).
- High‑level communication skills and ability to network effectively with diverse audiences.
- Teamwork, collaboration across disciplines, and relationship‑building skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Understanding and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values, and relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to relevant training.
Benefits and Conditions
Salary range: $127k - $150k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading.
