We are seeking a highly organised, detail-focused, and fluent Welsh speaker to join the Office of the Traffic Commissioner (OTC) as a Hearing Centre Support Officer on a temporary basis.

This is a unique opportunity to support the vital work of the Traffic Commissioners, who regulate and license goods vehicle operators, public service vehicle operators, and vocational drivers across Great Britain. You will be part of a committed team enabling the Traffic Commissioner to carry out their statutory duties efficiently and effectively.

The role will involve preparing cases for public inquiries, managing post-hearing administration, and clerking hearings both at the Hearing Centre and occasionally at other venues.

Key Responsibilities

1. Prepare and issue case papers, call-up letters, and briefs in line with OTC procedures and service level agreements (SLAs).
2. Act as clerk during public inquiry hearings.
3. Confidently read in front of the whole team in Welsh and English.
4. Process post-hearing actions, including issuing decisions and directions to relevant parties.
5. Prepare appeal bundles for the Upper Tribunal when required.
6. Ensure all case records are accurate, complete, and compliant with data protection legislation.
7. Handle telephone and written enquiries professionally and courteously.
8. Work collaboratively with colleagues and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

9. Fluent Welsh verbal and written communication skills (essential).
10. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to draft complex submissions within a legislative framework.
11. Strong organisational and administrative skills, able to prioritise effectively based on risk.
12. The ability to analyse case work and present findings clearly and accurately.
13. A constructive, team-focused approach, with integrity and attention to detail at all times.

Why Join Us?

14. Play a key role in a high-profile public service environment.
15. Contribute to fairness, compliance, and safety in the road transport industry.
16. Enjoy the flexibility of hybrid working.
17. Gain valuable experience in case preparation, hearings, and tribunal processes.
