Chief Engineer

Up to £55,000 per annum + benefits
The Company
An iconic, large-scale city centre hotel in Manchester with heritage features and a complex operational footprint. This is a flagship operation known for quality, high standards, and constant evolution — offering a genuinely challenging and rewarding environment for an experienced engineering leader.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to take full ownership of the hotel’s maintenance and engineering function. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring the smooth, safe, and compliant operation of a demanding, high-profile property.
You will lead a team of six, including:
* 2 highly skilled Assistant Engineering Managers
* 4 General Maintenance Engineers (General, Plasterer, Painter & Tiler)
* This is a strategic yet operational role, requiring strong organisation, technical expertise, and the ability to manage people, projects, contractors, and compliance within a fast-paced hospitality environment.Key Responsibilities
o Full responsibility for all hotel maintenance operations
o Delivering and managing a robust PPM schedule
o Ensuring full statutory compliance across all systems
o Leading capital projects, refurbishments, and improvement works
o Managing external contractors and specialist suppliers
o Budget control, forecasting, and cost management
o Developing, coaching, and motivating a multi-disciplinary engineering team
o Working closely with senior hotel leadership to support operational excellence
o Maintaining heritage and complex building systems to the highest standards
About YouYou will be:
o Strategic, organised, knowledgeable, and highly efficient
o An experienced engineering leader within hospitality or a similarly complex environment
o Comfortable operating in a challenging, high-pressure maintenance operation
o Confident managing large teams and multiple workstreams simultaneously
Essential Experience
o Proven experience as a Chief Engineer / Head of Engineering or similar senior role
o Background in a large-scale hotel, complex heritage property, or multi-property portfolio
o Strong people management experience is imperative
o Excellent knowledge of compliance, health & safety, and statutory requirements
