Royal Voluntary Service has an opportunity available for a Retail Customer Assistant (Weekends) to join our team at Haywards Heath RVS Shop, Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath, West Sussex, RH16 4EX. This is a part-time, permanent role, offering a competitive salary of £12.43 per hour (FTE £22,638 per annum).
About the Retail Customer Assistant role:
Royal Voluntary Service hospital cafes, shops, and trolleys are integral to the NHS, staffed by employees and volunteers, providing a range of beverages and healthy food. The money spent here supports volunteer actions in hospitals and communities.
Working with a friendly team, you will help run our busy retail shop at Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Providing friendly, helpful, and efficient service
2. Welcoming customers, informing about specials or new products, answering questions, and handling payments
3. Operating the till and cashing up
4. Maintaining cleanliness and adhering to Health and Safety and food hygiene standards
5. Replenishing stock and displays, and ordering supplies as needed
Working hours:
10 hours weekly, including 4 hours on Saturday (14:30 - 18:30) and 6 hours on Sunday (10:30 - 16:30). Our retail sites may operate on weekends and bank holidays. Paid overtime may be available during busy periods or to cover absence.

Candidate requirements:
In a hospital setting, excellent customer service skills are vital. You should be able to communicate effectively and adapt your approach to meet diverse needs.
* Experience in retail or cafes is advantageous but not essential; a positive attitude and willingness to learn are key
* Knowledge of EPOS/till systems is beneficial
* Experience with administrative processes is a plus
* Commitment to ongoing professional development
* Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills
* Proficiency with email and internet
* Good literacy and numeracy skills
* Flexible approach to working hours
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
