Teaching Assistant
Milk Education is proud to partner with a number of inclusive, welcoming, and high-achieving primary schools across Sunderland. We are currently recruiting committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to support pupils across EYFS, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2.
We have a range of opportunities available including day-to-day supply, short-term placements, and long-term roles, offering flexibility to suit your availability and career goals.
This role is ideal for experienced Teaching Assistants, qualified Level 2 or Level 3 practitioners, graduates considering teacher training, or individuals with relevant transferable experience.
Teaching Assistant - Key Responsibilities
* Provide high-quality classroom support across EYFS, KS1, and KS2
* Deliver targeted 1:1 and small group interventions in literacy and numeracy
* Support the implementation of phonics programmes (e.g., Read Write Inc. or similar schemes)
* Assist teachers with lesson preparation, classroom organisation, and resource management
* Support pupils with SEND, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and speech & language needs
* Implement behaviour management strategies in line with school policies
* Encourage pupil engagement, independence, and positive learning behaviours
* Supervise pupils during transitions, break times, and enrichment activities
* Observe, monitor, and report on pupil progress
Teaching Assistant - Candidate Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should have:
* Previous experience working in a primary school or with children of primary age
* A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (desirable)
* Strong knowledge of the primary curriculum
* Confidence supporting phonics, early reading, and numeracy development
* A patient, adaptable, and proactive approach
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
* An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
