Overview

Portfolio Procurement has been engaged by our leading Essex based client to recruit for a Power Tools Buyer.


Responsibilities

* Working as a key member of the Buying team you will be responsible for all aspects of the buying function and administration for the Power Tools product range to support the Head of Power Tools in creating the buying strategy, achieving, and maximising opportunities for sales, profits, and margin.
* Take responsibility for the sales and profit performance of a high turnover product category while sourcing and developing new and existing product ranges.
* Construct and maintain the buying matrices for all new and current suppliers within the relevant category.
* Research new brands and products, negotiating the best prices, promotions, and rebate packages to maintain a competitive position and achieve margin targets.
* Attend trade shows and conferences in the UK and abroad, actively taking the lead in supplier meetings as required.
* Place, forecast, and schedule purchase orders, considering stock holding, sales and promotional activities, warehouse capacity and lead times.
* Manage and report on current products to maximise performance and address ineffective or underperforming lines.
* Upload information to the system ensuring accuracy and resolving queries.
* Establish strong relationships with new and existing suppliers ensuring effective communication channels are created and queries and issues are resolved efficiently.
* Collaborate with the buying and marketing teams to create and maintain supplier matrices and gather information and images for buying and marketing.
* Assist the Head of Power Tools with the creation and delivery of the buying strategy by analysing market trends, competitor activity and seeking opportunities for new products and innovations.
* Provide advice and guidance to the team in managing individual product ranges to maximise sales and profits across the department.
* Support and assist the Head of Power Tools with the training and development of new team members, acting as mentor to others in development and internal procedures and buying practices.
* Assist with the introduction of new and efficient buying practices to improve current systems of work.
* Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures and adherence to statutory Health & Safety requirements.


Skills and Experience

* Experience in a retail or online industry is essential
* A minimum of 2 years' experience purchasing/buying power tool products
* A commercial awareness and understanding of buying budgets, forecasts, and margins
* Confident, motivated, and able to work independently
* Pleasant, helpful, and optimistic attitude with the ability to form strong working relationships across a variety of business functions
* A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
* Ability to work as a valuable team member with a flexible can-do attitude
