Howdens is looking to recruit a Manufacturing Design Engineer. Are you passionate about driving innovation and improvement within a fast-paced manufacturing environment? We’re looking for a Manufacturing Design Engineer to join our team at Howdens Joinery, based at our manufacturing site in Howden, Goole.
In this role, you’ll be part of the Manufacturing Development Team, supporting the team to deliver incremental machine design improvements. Using your SolidWorks design expertise and problem-solving skills, you’ll design improvements and support installation and commissioning to deliver incremental sustainable improvements to existing manufacturing processes and help enhance overall manufacturing efficiency.

What Will You Be Doing as a Manufacturing Design Engineer:
- Using SolidWorks to design and deliver in-house improvements to existing equipment and processes.
- Developing and delivering design improvement projects from concept through to implementation.
- Ensure all improvements meet Howdens and Uk engineering / safety standards.
- Work with cross-functional teams to understand design requirements.
- Contribute / lead root cause analysis of production issues.
- Collaborating with Operations, Maintenance, and cross-functional teams to verify the effectiveness of installed improvements
What Do You Need to Qualify for the Manufacturing Design Engineer Role:
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (or similar CAD software) for equipment design and modifications - minimum 4 years SolidWorks experience required.
- Degree in an Engineering discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Understanding of UK and EN safety standards for equipment modification and installation
- Proven experience in manufacturing improvement or process engineering within a high-volume production environment
- Excellent analytical, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to engage cross-functional teams
- A proactive, hands-on approach with a strong focus on results and delivering measurable improvements
