Role Overview
Pharmacy Technician who will support the primary care team by improving patient care through effective medicines management, repeat prescribing processes and medicines optimisation. The role involves supporting safe, cost‑effective prescribing, medication reviews, and ensuring adherence to best practice. Salary: £20.35 per hour – Bank contract with flexible shift bid options.
Responsibilities
* Support safe, cost‑effective, and high‑quality prescribing in line with national and local guidelines.
* Assist in managing repeat prescribing systems and reduce medication waste.
* Conduct medication reviews and reconcile medications post‑hospital discharge and during care transitions.
* Address medication queries from patients and healthcare professionals in line with competency.
* Work directly with patients to improve medication adherence and provide guidance on medication safety and best practices.
* Support care home residents and vulnerable patient groups with medication‑related concerns.
* Contribute to clinical audits and prescribing reviews.
* Assist in implementing medicines optimisation initiatives to enhance financial sustainability.
* Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge on medicines legislation and NICE guidelines.
* Report incidents and near misses through the appropriate channels following PC24 policies and procedures.
* Support Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), LQC, GP Spec, and antibiotic stewardship.
* Support implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance.
* Work across multiple GP practices, liaising with pharmacists, GPs, practice staff, and external healthcare professionals (e.g., community pharmacy).
Qualifications
* Registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent and NVQ Level 3.
* Minimum of 3 years experience in a GP practice or ICB place.
* Knowledge of GP systems such as EMIS or similar clinical software.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Flexible to travel across various Primary Care 24 locations.
