Responsibilities
* Contribute to expanding Stats Central’s support for bioinformatics, building the capacity of UNSW researchers and research students to process and analyse complex genomic and proteomic datasets.
* Advise on or lead study design, analysis and communication of results; develop and maintain analysis pipelines; develop and run professional development workshops and seminars.
* Build and maintain strong relationships to facilitate interdisciplinary research.
* Report to the Senior Statistical Consultant, Stats Central and support activities within the Stats Central team.
Qualifications
* Level A: PhD in Bioinformatics or a related field with proven expertise in applying bioinformatic pipelines for single-cell sequencing, spatial proteomics/transcriptomics, or integrative multi-omics data analysis. Proficiency in R or Python, bash, and Linux HPC environments. Ability to meet project requirements with minimal supervision. Strong teamwork, independence, and ability to communicate complex concepts to non-specialists. Mentoring, development of new bioinformatic methodologies, and willingness to leverage generative AI are desirable. Knowledge of UNSW’s aims, policies and safety responsibilities is expected.
* Level B (in addition to Level A criteria): Proven experience in bioinformatics including reviewing research grants and journal articles; leading planning and analysis of genomics or proteomics studies; independent scientific and bioinformatic leadership; ability to teach bioinformatic techniques and develop short course materials; a strong interdisciplinary publication record and well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills.
