Job Overview
The Health Care Support Worker is an essential member of a multi‑disciplinary team, providing a high standard of care for patients and support and comfort to family members, friends and carers. In addition to essential care and support, there are opportunities to develop skills such as monitoring and recording patient observations, ECGs and phlebotomy. The role is based at the Savernake Ward, providing 24‑hour care, 7 days a week, and requires a willingness to work a variety of shifts.
Responsibilities
* Maintain personal hygiene, continence, mobility, nutrition and hydration for patients.
* Provide high‑level essential care according to ward guidelines and protocols.
* Support patient recovery by promoting rehabilitation and encouraging as much independence as possible.
* Assist with the collection and recording of patient observations, including vital signs.
* Carry out basic clinical duties such as ECGs and phlebotomy under supervision.
* Collaborate within a multi‑professional team to deliver safe and effective care.
Qualifications and Experience
* Good general education.
* Care Certificate or willingness to achieve it.
* Experience working under supervision.
* Experience supporting other workers.
* Ability to work effectively as a team member.
* Deliver patient‑focused care with the capacity to recognise one's own limitations.
* Typing and data inputting skills.
* Physical strength to manually handle patients and use appropriate lifting aids.
* Ability to undertake specific nursing/therapy skills.
* Driven and self‑motivated, with good time‑management skills.
