Job Overview
To provide the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in the CMHT with an enhanced occupational therapy service and expertise. This will include individual (and possibly group) work, assessment, intervention and evaluation in accordance with the Royal College of Occupational Therapy Code of Practice.
To utilise standardised assessments such as MOHO and dementia‑related evidence‑based assessment tools to establish a baseline functional assessment and inform ongoing care and treatment, enabling optimum engagement and well‑being.
To integrate evidence‑based practice and skilful use of assessments and interventions with person‑centred care principles to improve service users’ quality of life and support them to do the things they wish and live meaningful lives.
To apply a high level of understanding of the effects of mental illness, dementia, and physical conditions on functioning, providing training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to service users’ social and physical environment, including assessments and recommendations for equipment, aids and adaptations.
About the Team
The Harrow Older Adult Community Mental Health Team seeks an experienced Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join our service.
Working Hours
Five‑day service, 9 am to 5 pm.
Person Specification
Education
* Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
* Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registered Occupational Therapist.
* Member of RCOT.
Essential Criteria
* Post‑qualification experience in mental health at band 6 level.
* Experience of working with older people.
* Experience of working with individuals with dementia.
* Experience of assessing and providing training in use of adaptive equipment.
* Experience of using standardised OT assessments.
* Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Experience working in a multi‑cultural environment.
* Experience drafting group protocols and setting up and facilitating groups and group programmes.
* Experience supervising junior staff.
Desirable Criteria
* Postgraduate training relevant to mental health, older adults, dementia, or frailty.
* Training in sensory modulation, dementia care, or behavioural management.
* Experience working within CMHTs, frailty services, memory services, or integrated care pathways.
* Experience assessing and managing distress behaviours or complex presentations.
* Experience of group work and/or service development initiatives.
