We are seeking
a Maintenance Supervisor to join our Facilities team here at DPAG. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong all-round building maintenance experience and proven supervisory skills. You will lead a small team, ensuring that both reactive and planned maintenance tasks are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. You will play a key role in maintaining a safe, fully operational environment for staff, students, and researchers, while also supporting minor works and coordinating contractors. Key responsibilities:
1. Supervise and support a small team of maintenance staff, allocating work and monitoring performance
2. Plan and coordinate reactive and planned maintenance activities
3. Carry out and oversee general building maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, and fabric repair
4. Diagnose faults and ensure timely and effective resolution
5. Monitor building systems (heating, ventilation, water, power, and specialist research infrastructure)
6. Coordinate contractors and liaise with Estates Services
7. Support minor refurbishment and improvement projects
8. Promote and maintain high standards of health and safety compliance
9. Provide a responsive and professional service to a wide range of stakeholders
Selection criteria: Essential:
10. City and Guilds or AIM Level 3 qualification in building/property maintenance, or similar.
11. Proven experience in general building maintenance, repairs, and fault finding
12. Experience supervising or leading a small team
13. Good working knowledge of building systems and maintenance practices
14. Understanding of UK health and safety legislation
15. Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
16. Good communication skills and ability to work with a range of stakeholders
17. Proactive and practical approach to problem solving
18. Competent IT skills (e.g. MS Office, maintenance systems)
19. Experience of creating collaborative and inclusive environments with people from different backgrounds
20. Experience managing contractors and small project
21. Experience with standard workshop tools and equipment
Desirable:
22. Experience in a university, laboratory, healthcare, or similar complex environment
23. Familiarity with facilities management systems (e.g. PLANON)
24. Health and safety qualification (e.g. IOSH)
